The Inheritance Left by Charles Blandy
   
 
If there are still splendid examples of pre-phylloxera and even of pre-oïdium wines left in Madeira, it is chiefly due to the foresight and courage of Charles Blandy. It was he who built up stocks of fine Madeiras during those troubled years, when so many of his weaker brethren had lost all faith in the future of the wine trade of Madeira, stocks of which have proved since of the utmost value not only to his descendants and his own firm, which is theirs today, but to the reputation of Madeira.
