today does not enjoy as much the festivities and folklore activities
that it had entertained one or two generations ago. Today it is a
more serious and commercial activity. When the grapes are harvested
they are put into wicker baskets at the side of the road. Lorries
come past and empty the baskets onto the back of the truck to take
them to the mechanical wine presses. |

characteristic of the Portuguese blue style show a “lagar” being
used to press grapes, barefoot at it. This was a tradition of
yesteryear, and can still be seen today if you get to know some
