THE RICH INHERITANCE: The Wine Cultivars or Types

The  Madeira Wine cultivars are divided into several categories.  There are the noble wines, the more common table wine varieties, and the table grape for eating. This section deals with the five Noble cultivars that are at present the most important in the production of Madeira Wine today: The Malvasia, Sercial, Boal, Verdelho, and the Tinta Negra Mole varieties.

The wines from Madeira have a richness that many
other wines cannot compare with.

Another important cultivar today includes the Terrantez - a rare viticultural gift of a wine, if you can get your hands on some.

The table wines that are produced from other varieties include the Jacquez, Americano, and Tinto.

Grapes for domestic consumption, and of which only one or two could be used to produce table wines, include the Moscatel,  the Carão de Moça, the Alicante, the Listrão, the Ferral, the Americano, and the Barrete de Padre.
